Everything bite-sized

Lessons Learned from Parenthood

As a mom of really young ones, everything is bite-sized. Pancakes cut into little bites. Grapes quartered. I don't tell my girls what we are doing next week or often even tomorrow because they can't tell time and just get confused. For awhile I marked festivals and other fun things down on a calendar, and my almost-4-year-old thought she could make them come quicker by crossing off a whole bunch of days all at once LOL. She'd try to rush the good stuff. If she heard about bad stuff like dentist appointments too far in advance, she'd live in a spirit of worry and dread. So I have learned to share information in small bite-sized pieces that they can handle easily without stress.

I have been told that God does not share his plans with us, so that we must learn to walk in faith. 2 Corinthians 5:7 says "We live by faith, not by sight."  I have at times struggled with this, as it almost paints the picture of God withholding information, sort of cruelly, to force us to follow him. Today it occurred to me that while God does want us to walk in faith, perhaps he also withholds information from a place of Love, just like me as a mom. He doesn't want us to rush the good stuff he has planned. He doesn't want us to waste precious time dreading the harder times he sees ahead as well. He knows we can't tell time on an eternal scale and therefore he manages it for us, carefully giving us bite-sized pieces of intel at exactly the necessary moment. I can think of many circumstances that I WANTED to know about in advance, so that I could plan for them LOL ... but in hindsight if I had been aware, I would have made a huge mess of things. Thank God, for God.

1 Peter 5:7 Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.

Matthew 6:34 So do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

Jeremiah 29:11 'For I know the plans I have for you,' declares the Lord, 'plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future. '

Do you wish God shared his plans with you? Do you really think it would do you any good if He did? Better to walk in Faith, knowing he is a loving parent, and will tell you what you need, when you need it.

Lord God, I've seen so much evidence of your good, good plan in my life.  Yet when times get tough, I forget all about it.  Help me to remember and trust in you, Lord.  Help me take each step in faith, even when I'm tired and my eyes can't see ... Lord, I know you're here for me.  In Jesus's name.  Amen.
